Mama Makeup and Skincare secrets

Tara and Baby Gene in his Stokke Xplory

I am so excited to be writing a guest blog for Bella Baby. For any of you that don’t know me, I am a new Mum to my little boy Gene. I’m a busy make up artist and skincare fanatic. Since being pregnant last year I made some changes to my skincare routine and have also been consciously speeding up my morning make up routine as my time is even more limited as a new Mum.

I have so many busy Mums following me and one of my most commonly asked questions is about quick make up fixes for ladies on the go so here are some of my favourites. You do not have to be a make up artist to be able to do any of these things, you don’t even have to be good at make up. These simple tips will hopefully make a difference to your morning routine and hopefully save you some very valuable time.

Preparation is Key

I know not everyone has the time to do a 6 step skincare routine before bed and first thing in the morning but there are some great time saving products out there that I love. Overnight masks are great as you literally just leave them on and go to bed and wake up with noticeably fresher skin. There are lots of these on the market but three that I love are

- Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask

- Image Vital C Hydrating Overnight Masque

- Shiseido Ibuki Beauty Sleeping Mask

Aim to at least cleanse, tone and moisturise before bed when the baby is sleeping and try to do a mask 2-3 times a week. Your skin will thank you for it and it will also help save you time because if your skin is looking healthy you most likely won’t wear as much make up.

My simple 5-Step Make Up Routine

As a new or busy Mam you most likely have missed out on lots of precious beauty sleep, you might think you are beginning to look as tired as you feel. There are some amazing quick fix products that I swear by that are so easy to use but will definitely help the appearance of tired eyes and skin.

Step 1.

If your skin is looking a bit lack lustre or dull a liquid illuminator will create the illusion of healthy radiant skin. Simply massage it on with your hand or your foundation brush. Most brands have nice liquid illuminators but my two personal favourites are Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter or First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Smoothie Primer.

Step 2.

Conceal! If you have dark circles or bags under your eyes don’t be disheartened. There is nothing that a good concealer can’t help. I love The Bourjois Anti-Fatigue concealer, It’s really affordable and amazing quality.

Step 3.

A nude eyeliner for your waterline is probably one of the best tips I can give you. It tones down any redness and immediately brightens up the eyes. My favourite two are Charlotte Tilbury Eye cheat and The Stila Nude liner Kajal. Both of these last for the day so will save you the hassle of reapplying them in the middle of the day.

Step 4.

Mascara will instantly lengthen and add volume to your lashes, applying a couple of coats of your favourite mascara is another instant pick me up.

Step 5.

One coat of your favourite lipstick or gloss and you are good to go! lipstick is such a personal thing but I always opt for a nice nude which instantly makes me feel better.

 Body Care

I was speaking to a friend of mine who is a mother of 3 and she was saying she couldn’t remember the last time she moisturised because she never had the time. Keeping the skin moisturised and hydrated is so important for stimulating blood circulation and new cell generation. I find moisturiser sprays handy for a quick fix when you come out of the shower or if you literally can’t find any time to spare get a nice moisturising  shower gel that you can use in the shower. I also always keep hand moisturiser beside my bed and pop it on every night before I go to sleep.
